Affeo's R&D lab is focused on customer-driven research and development projects in the area of affective computing. Emotion is fundamental to human experience. It influences everything from cognition and perception to everyday tasks from learning to communication and decision-making. However, computer and software engineering technologists have largely ignored emotion and created an often frustrating experience for users, in part because affect is largely misunderstood and difficult to measure.

Our customer-driven R&D projects combine computer science with psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, education, psychophysiology, value-centered design, and other disciplines. Our multidisciplinary teams bring together individuals with a diversity of technical, artistic, and human-factors backgrounds, skills, and knowledge in a collaborative spirit to push the boundaries of what can be achieved to improve human affective experience with technology. Our research develops new technologies that advance basic use of affect in software systems and understanding of its role in human experience.
